Bristol Rovers Owners Address Fan Concerns in Upcoming Interview

Bristol Rovers’ ownership has issued a long-awaited statement, inviting fans to submit questions ahead of an interview scheduled for next week. This move comes as supporters express growing frustration with the AlSaeed ownership, particularly regarding the redevelopment of the Memorial Stadium and the Quarters Training Facility.

In a statement released on December 24, 2025, Chairman Hussain AlSaeed acknowledged the supporters’ concerns and emphasized the importance of open communication. He stated, “This time of year provides a valuable opportunity to pause, reflect, and take stock of the past 12 months. I want to offer supporters a comprehensive update on the matters that are most important to them.” Fans are encouraged to submit their questions for the upcoming interview, which will be broadcast on Club TV.

The AlSaeed ownership has faced scrutiny since its takeover in August 2023, particularly regarding the progress of stadium redevelopment projects. The South Stand at the Memorial Stadium, which opened in December 2023, increased the stadium’s capacity by more than 2,000 seats. However, plans to modernize the remaining stands have stalled, leading to growing discontent among supporters.

During the recent Bristol Rovers Supporters Club Annual General Meeting on November 6, Director of Commercial & Revenue Ritchie Bates and assistant head coach Jon Stead addressed various topics, hinting that an official statement would be forthcoming before Christmas. Following through on that promise, AlSaeed expressed gratitude towards fans for their “passion, loyalty and continued support.”

By November 2024, AlSaeed became the sole shareholder after acquiring the remaining stake from Wael and Samer Al Qadi.

Despite promises of progress, the club has faced delays. In an interview with BBC Radio Bristol in early 2025, AlSaeed indicated that any construction work would take “at least a season or two.” He also mentioned plans to submit a second pre-application to Bristol City Council for the stadium redevelopment in March 2025, after addressing feedback from the initial application. Nevertheless, no application has been filed in the nine months since, with the most recent update on the Bristol City Council planning portal concerning conditions related to the South Stand.

Additionally, plans for the Quarters Training Facility, which would house the men’s, women’s, and academy teams, have also stalled. In January 2025, AlSaeed had mentioned the submission of a pre-application regarding the training ground, stating that they were awaiting a response from the council.

In a previous update to supporters in May 2025, AlSaeed remarked on the progress of both the stadium and training facility redevelopment efforts. He reassured fans that the club was committed to building a strong foundation for long-term success, despite the setbacks experienced on the pitch.
