Danny Rohl Emerges as Top Candidate for Rangers Head Coach
Danny Rohl has re-established himself as the leading candidate to become the new head coach of Rangers Football Club. According to Sky Sports News, discussions are ongoing with the former Sheffield Wednesday manager, who had previously withdrawn from consideration for the position. The 36-year-old expressed strong interest in the role and participated in training sessions last week but stepped back upon learning that other candidates were prioritized.
Rohl’s return to the forefront of talks follows the collapse of negotiations with Australian coach Kevin Muscat on Sunday night. Sources at Ibrox confirmed that while discussions with Muscat were advanced, the club continues to consider multiple options for the head coach position. An announcement regarding the new appointment is expected soon, particularly with Rangers set to face Brann in the Europa League on March 7, 2024. The team remains winless in this season’s competition, highlighting the urgency for a new leadership direction.
Rohl had initially been approached for the role during the summer and made a positive impression in previous meetings with the club’s hierarchy. His managerial experience includes a single full season with Sheffield Wednesday, where he led the team to a 12th-place finish in the Sky Bet Championship. He departed the club in July following a challenging tenure.
Before taking the reins at Sheffield Wednesday, Rohl served as an assistant manager at prominent clubs including RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich, as well as with the Germany national team. His coaching background includes successfully guiding Wednesday away from relegation danger in the previous campaign, showcasing his capability to manage under pressure.
As Rangers seeks to revitalize its season and improve its standing in European competitions, the appointment of a new head coach is critical. The club’s management is under pressure to make a swift decision as they prepare for their upcoming match against Brann. The situation remains fluid, and fans are eager for clarity on the club’s direction.
Further updates will be provided as the situation develops. For ongoing coverage and live updates, fans can follow Sky Sports.
