Drew McIntyre Returns to Scotland for Highlander Film Role

WWE star Drew McIntyre is set to return to his homeland of Scotland to film a pivotal role in the upcoming remake of the classic film Highlander. Originally released in the 1980s, the reboot will feature Henry Cavill as the main character, Connor MacLeod, while McIntyre will portray his brother.

At 40 years old and standing at an impressive 6 feet 5 inches, McIntyre, whose real name is Andrew Galloway, has made a significant mark in professional wrestling since starting his career with WWE in 2007. He has since become a two-time champion and recently made his film debut in the 2024 thriller The Killer’s Game. Now, he looks forward to the unique opportunity to film in the scenic Highlands of Scotland, a place he holds dear.

In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Mail, McIntyre expressed his excitement about the project. He stated, “It’s a great story, I am working with a talented cast, and I get to film in Scotland. There is nothing about this role that isn’t perfect.” Despite his success in the United States, where he became a citizen in 2023, he admitted to missing home. “I enjoy living in the US, but of course I miss Scotland. I am proud to be Scottish; any time anyone asks a question about Scotland, I’m always happy to answer and let the rest of the world know what an amazing country it is.”

Highlander Reboot Cast and Filming Updates

Joining McIntyre in the film is former WWE star and actor Dave Bautista, who will take on the role of the immortal Kurgan. Bautista is well known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and brings a wealth of experience to the cast. The film will also feature Karen Gillan, an Inverness native famous for her role in Doctor Who, who will portray Heather, the wife of Cavill’s character.

Filming for the Highlander remake was originally slated to begin in the Highlands later this year. However, the project has faced delays due to an injury sustained by Cavill, who reportedly injured his leg during a separate filming commitment.
