Harbaugh Affirms Strong Bond with Jackson Amid Controversy

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – In a recent statement, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh firmly denied claims of a rift with quarterback Lamar Jackson, asserting their relationship remains “A-plus.” Harbaugh’s comments came in response to a report from The Baltimore Sun that suggested Jackson has been falling asleep during team meetings, leading to growing frustrations from the coaching staff.

Harbaugh criticized the report, stating, “I don’t take any credence to anonymous sources,” and emphasized that he has never witnessed any concerning behavior from Jackson during meetings. “So, I don’t know where that’s coming from,” he added after Wednesday’s practice. The report indicated that Jackson often stays up late playing video games and suggested that the Ravens have adjusted their practice schedule to accommodate him.

The head coach expressed confidence in their communication, saying, “Our relationship is A-plus. So I love him. Always have, always will.” He highlighted a productive conversation he had with Jackson the previous Friday, reinforcing that he prefers direct communication rather than speculation. “I don’t need anybody speaking for me,” Harbaugh stated.

Successful Partnership Under Pressure

Harbaugh and Jackson have built a successful partnership over the past eight seasons, leading to four AFC North titles and six playoff appearances. Despite their accomplishments, the pair has faced criticism for their lack of postseason success. Since Jackson joined the team in 2018, the Ravens have won just three playoff games and have not advanced past the AFC Championship Game.

Currently, both are navigating one of their most challenging seasons together. The Ravens, once favored to win the Super Bowl, hold a record of 7-8 and could be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss against the Green Bay Packers on December 23, 2023. Harbaugh confirmed that Jackson’s status for the game remains “undetermined” due to a back contusion, as he was the only player absent from Wednesday’s practice.

“If he can go out there and do it, this guy’s one of the ultimate competitors that you’re ever going to see,” Harbaugh remarked. If Jackson is unable to play, backup quarterback Tyler Huntley will take over. Huntley previously led the Ravens to a victory over the Chicago Bears, currently standing at 11-4, in his only start this season.
