Harry Chapman Secures Gateshead’s 2-1 Victory at Truro
A stunning goal from Harry Chapman propelled Gateshead FC to a crucial 2-1 victory over relegation rivals Truro City FC in the National League. The match, played at Truro’s home ground, saw Gateshead secure three vital points and make the long return journey, approximately 450 miles, filled with celebration.
Chapman opened the scoring in the 19th minute, marking his first goal since October. He deftly poked the ball past Truro goalkeeper Aidan Stone, putting Gateshead ahead early in the match. This goal came just days after Gateshead ended a challenging 16-match losing streak with a win over Halifax.
The hosts responded quickly, leveling the match in the 27th minute. Tyler Harvey converted a deep cross from Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain, finding the net from inside the six-yard area. Despite the setback, Gateshead maintained their composure and continued to press for a second goal.
Early in the second half, Chapman delivered a moment of brilliance. He cut in from the left touchline, embarking on an impressive 40-yard diagonal run. With precision, he curled a shot from the edge of the penalty area that nestled into the far corner of the net. This goal has been hailed as a contender for goal of the season and proved pivotal in sealing Gateshead’s victory.
The win not only boosts Gateshead’s morale but also has significant implications for the league standings. With this result, Truro now occupies the bottom of the table, while Gateshead moves further away from the relegation zone.
As they head back home, Gateshead will reflect on a performance that showcased resilience and skill. The journey may have been long, but for Chapman and his teammates, the sweet taste of victory makes it worthwhile.
