Jeremy Doku’s Injury Clouds Manchester City’s Champions League Victory
Manchester City faced a setback during their Champions League encounter against Galatasaray when winger Jeremy Doku was forced to leave the match due to injury. The incident occurred just ten minutes before halftime at the Etihad Stadium, where City had established a commanding two-goal lead.
Doku had a significant impact in the first half, assisting both goals scored by City. However, his exit raised immediate concerns about the extent of his injury, adding to the mounting list of players currently unavailable to manager Pep Guardiola.
As the match progressed, it became evident that City is grappling with an injury crisis. Key players such as Ruben Dias, John Stones, Josko Gvardiol, Mateo Kovacic, and Savinho were all sidelined for the clash against the Turkish side. Additionally, Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo were ineligible to participate, having joined the club in January and quickly making their mark in the Premier League.
Doku’s replacement, Phil Foden, stepped in as City sought to maintain their advantage. Meanwhile, Tijjani Reijnders experienced a scare in the second half after a head collision with Davinson Sanchez of Galatasaray. Both players received medical attention on the pitch but returned to complete the match, alleviating fears of a serious injury.
In a related development, Oscar Bobb, who could have been a potential replacement for Doku, completed a transfer to Fulham earlier on the day of the match for a fee of £27 million. Bobb, who broke into the City first team during the 2023/24 season, sought more playing time, leading to his move away from the club. His relationship with Guardiola had reportedly deteriorated, prompting the decision to leave.
As City continues to navigate this challenging period, the full extent of Doku’s injury remains uncertain. The club and its supporters will be hoping for positive news in the coming days as they prepare for their next fixtures.
