Justin Rose Eyes Mini Driver to Enhance Performance at The Masters
Justin Rose has set his sights on improving his game ahead of the prestigious Masters Tournament at Augusta National, where he narrowly missed out on victory last year. The 45-year-old English golfer engaged in a thrilling playoff against Rory McIlroy, who seemed poised to secure his first Green Jacket. Rose’s impressive performance last year has reignited hopes for a major championship win, especially after a successful run in the 2026 season, which includes a victory at the Farmers Insurance Open and a pivotal role in Europe’s Ryder Cup triumph in New York.
Enhancing Strategy with a Mini Driver
As he prepares for the upcoming Masters, Rose is contemplating the addition of a mini driver to his bag, a club that has gained popularity with fellow golfer Tommy Fleetwood. This decision stems from his desire to improve his off-the-tee performance, an area he identified as needing enhancement during last year’s tournament. “I feel like I got caught in between driver and three-wood quite a lot down the stretch on a few occasions,” Rose noted. He believes that utilizing a mini driver could offer an advantage as he navigates the challenging Augusta course.
Reflecting on his preparation approach, Rose emphasized the importance of balance. “I think it’s not like every week’s a practice week for Augusta. I don’t think that’s a healthy mindset anyway,” he explained. He aims to maintain a focus on the Masters while ensuring that all aspects of his game remain sharp through consistent practice and competition.
Current Form and Driving Statistics
Rose’s driving statistics for the 2026 season have shown promising signs. He has gained strokes off the tee in every event since November, demonstrating a notable improvement in his driving distance and accuracy. At Torrey Pines, he averaged 308.7 yards, ranking 80th out of 182 players on the tour. This performance was instrumental in his victory at the Farmers Insurance Open, where he gained 0.71 strokes on the field with his driver.
To succeed at Augusta, where distance and accuracy are critical, Rose’s current form positions him well against top competitors like McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau. “I feel like the way I’m driving the ball this year so far and the end of last year kind of gives me a little bit more opportunity there than it maybe has done in the past,” he stated. With the right adjustments and continued focus, Rose is poised to make a significant impact at the Masters.
As the tournament approaches, Rose remains optimistic about his chances. He understands the importance of executing his game plan effectively while maintaining a positive mindset. “You’ve just got to go and be in a good frame of mind and execute on the week,” he concluded. With the Masters on the horizon, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if Rose can turn his aspirations into reality and capture his first Green Jacket.
