Pejović and Kukulić Win Titles at Montenegro’s 68th Cross Championship
The 68th Montenegro Cross Championship concluded successfully on March 15, 2024, with Slađana Pejović and Miljan Kukulić emerging as champions. The event took place on the scenic trails beneath Trebjese in Nikšić, drawing participation from ten athletes representing nine clubs, including Mornar, Lovćen, and Jedinstvo.
Under optimal weather conditions, competitors participated in various age categories ranging from young children to seniors, showcasing a vibrant start to the athletic season in Montenegro. The event highlighted the talent present within the country’s athletic community. Pejović triumphed in the senior women’s 3000-meter race, while Kukulić dominated the senior men’s 6000-meter event.
The competition saw athletes from Mornar, based in Bar, perform exceptionally well, securing a total of 12 medals. Following them, Jedinstvo earned nine medals, and Lovćen achieved a commendable six medals. The impressive medal tally reflects the clubs’ strong training and preparation leading up to the championship.
Several dignitaries attended the event on behalf of the Athletic Federation of Montenegro. Milan Madžgalj, the general secretary, along with selector Osman Erović and members of the coaching staff, were present to support the athletes. The event was officially opened by Madžgalj, while Tomislav Tomo Žižić, president of the hosting club, delivered welcoming remarks.
Following the races, the Athletic Federation of Montenegro recognized the top performers across all age categories with diplomas and medals.
In the men’s events, notable results included:
– **Cicibani (800m):** 1. Maid Alomerović (Sanja), 2. Pavle Popović (Mornar), 3. Novak Mrdak (Sparta).
– **Pioniri (1500m):** 1. Uroš Čamović (Milenijum), 2. Ivan Jerofejev (Mornar), 3. Milivoje Kilibarda (Nikšić).
– **Senior Men (6000m):** 1. Miljan Kukulić (Mornar), 2. Todor Nikolić (Nikšić), 3. Davor Kujović (Sparta).
In the women’s categories, standout performances included:
– **Cicibanke (600m):** 1. Sara Tvrdišić (Mornar), 2. Helena Husak (Mornar), 3. Ena Kasumović (Jedinstvo).
– **Mlađe Pionirke (800m):** 1. Sofija Pejović (Mornar), 2. Lena Raičević (Jedinstvo), 3. Jana Ćetković (Sparta).
– **Senior Women (3000m):** 1. Slađana Pejović (Nikšić), 2. Lidija Todorović (Sparta), 3. Marina Marković (Lovćen).
The 68th Montenegro Cross Championship not only celebrated athletic excellence but also fostered community spirit among participants and supporters alike. With the success of this event, anticipation builds for future competitions and the continued development of athletics in Montenegro.
