Simons Prefers Chelsea Move Over Bayern and Manchester City
Xavi Simons has expressed a strong preference to join Chelsea FC, despite interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City, according to sources familiar with the situation. The 22-year-old attacker is expected to leave RB Leipzig this summer, with the club setting a transfer fee of €80 million (approximately $93.6 million). Simons joined Leipzig permanently in January 2023 for an initial fee of €50 million.
During the previous season, Simons demonstrated his skills by scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists in 25 appearances. Despite signing a contract that runs until 2027, Leipzig is keen to capitalize on his value in the transfer market.
Chelsea’s Ambitious Transfer Strategy
Reports indicate that Chelsea is intensifying its pursuit of Simons, with a proposal of around €60 million on the table. This move would mark Chelsea’s ninth signing of the summer, adding to their significant investment of over €250 million on players such as Moisés Caicedo and Christopher Nkunku.
Simons’ potential transfer to Chelsea comes as the club looks to bolster its attacking options. The team aims to build on its previous season’s performance by bringing in fresh talent, and Simons fits the profile of a player who can make an immediate impact.
Competition from Bayern and Manchester City
Bayern Munich views Simons as an ideal replacement for Sadio Mané, who recently transferred to a Saudi Arabian club. The German side is looking to strengthen its squad as the new season approaches. Similarly, Manchester City has included Simons on its shortlist should they lose key player Harry Kane to Tottenham Hotspur.
While Chelsea appears to be the frontrunner, the interest from both Bayern and City adds a layer of complexity to the transfer negotiations. As the situation develops, Simons’ decision will not only affect his career but also the dynamics of the European transfer market this summer.
The next few weeks will be crucial as clubs finalize their rosters ahead of the upcoming season, and Simons’ future will likely remain a topic of discussion in football circles.
