Budućnost Voli Secures Playoff Spot with 97-81 Win Over Chemnitz
Budućnost Voli achieved a decisive victory over Chemnitz, winning 97-81 in a crucial EuroCup match on March 15, 2024. This win guarantees them a spot in the playoff round, and with two games remaining, they now aim to secure a higher seed for home-court advantage in the Round of 16.
Head coach Andrej Žakelj praised his players for their performance, emphasizing the importance of the win. “That was the goal today, and we accomplished it. It wasn’t easy to prepare for this match after the previous EuroCup round,” he stated. Žakelj noted that both teams understood the significance of the game, which heightened the stakes for all involved.
The first quarter presented challenges for Budućnost Voli as they initially struggled to execute their game plan. “After the first quarter, where we played contrary to our agreement, we began to improve our defense,” Žakelj explained. He highlighted the shift to a stronger, more cohesive defensive effort that set the tone for the remainder of the game.
As the match progressed, Budućnost Voli’s defense became a crucial factor in their success. “When the defense is good, as I have said many times before, the offense follows suit,” Žakelj remarked. Despite encountering some difficult periods during the game, his team managed to regain control, aided by the support of their fans.
Although attendance at the game was not overwhelming, Žakelj expressed gratitude for the passionate support from those who were present. “They may not have come in large numbers, but they were loud, and for that, I thank them,” he said, acknowledging the role of the fans in motivating the team.
With their playoff position secured, Budućnost Voli will now focus on their upcoming matches. The team aims to finish in either third or fourth place, which would provide the advantage of home-court support in the knockout stages of the EuroCup. The next two games will be critical as they seek to enhance their playoff seeding.
