Criminal Charges Filed Against Three for Illegal Construction
The police in Berane, Montenegro, have filed criminal complaints against three individuals for their involvement in illegal construction activities within the protected area of Biogradska Gora National Park. This action is part of ongoing efforts to combat environmental crime and protect natural resources, according to a statement from the Police Administration.
The complaints were lodged against individuals identified as M.Š., M.P., and R.V.. These individuals are accused of constructing buildings without the necessary permits and documentation. The police began their investigation following reports of unauthorized construction within the national park’s jurisdiction.
Details of the Illegal Construction Activities
According to reports, M.Š. allegedly constructed two buildings, both weekend houses, in July 2022. These structures measure approximately 5 by 4 meters and 5 by 3 meters. Similarly, M.P. is suspected of building a structure measuring 2.5 by 3 meters in June 2023 at the same location. Additionally, R.V. reportedly built a larger structure measuring 7 by 6.4 meters in the vicinity.
The police have notified relevant inspection authorities to take appropriate measures for the removal of these unauthorized structures. This step underscores the collaborative approach to environmental protection by various agencies.
Ongoing Environmental Protection Efforts
Police officials confirmed that they will continue implementing planned actions aligned with national priorities in the fight against environmental crime. The state has designated environmental protection as a crucial focus area for governmental bodies. The commitment emphasizes the importance of preserving natural resources and ensuring that development activities comply with legal standards.
The efforts in Biogradska Gora National Park reflect a broader initiative aimed at safeguarding Montenegro’s rich biodiversity and natural landscapes. As authorities ramp up enforcement against illegal construction, they hope to deter future violations and promote sustainable development practices.
