Family Calls for Justice After Man Shot Dead in Motherwell

The family of Jordan Gray, a 26-year-old man fatally shot in a tower block in Motherwell, has expressed their devastation following his death. Gray’s body was discovered in a flat at Shields Court on December 15, 2022, although police believe he was killed the previous day. His family has highlighted the tragic impact of his death on his infant child, who will grow up without knowing the depth of his father’s love.

In a heartfelt statement, Gray’s stepfather, Michael Groome, and mother, Lynn Gray, described their anguish, stating that Jordan had been “murdered in cold blood.” Groome emphasized the outpouring of love from the community, illustrating that Jordan was a well-liked young man whose life was abruptly taken away. He noted that Jordan’s siblings are struggling to comprehend the loss of their older brother, adding, “Jordan’s baby will have to grow up without knowing how much his dad loved him.”

The investigation into Gray’s death is ongoing. A post-mortem examination confirmed that he suffered fatal injuries consistent with gunfire. As part of their efforts, Police Scotland has reviewed over 1,200 hours of security footage related to the case. Detectives are particularly interested in identifying a man seen near Shields Court at approximately 22:35 on the night of the shooting. The individual was reportedly wearing a dark jacket with the hood up and dark trousers.

Detective Superintendent Grant Hendry, the senior officer leading the investigation, described the crime as shocking, particularly given that it occurred within Gray’s own home. He urged anyone with information about the unidentified man to come forward, emphasizing the importance of tracing the person responsible for this violent act. “This is a really shocking crime, the murder of a young man in his own home. It’s vital we trace the person responsible and get answers for Jordan’s family,” Hendry stated.
