King Charles and Princess Kate Targeted by Vaccine Conspiracy Claims
A troubling conspiracy theory has emerged, connecting the recent health struggles of members of the British royal family to the Covid-19 vaccination program. This narrative, which has gained traction in certain online circles, was notably amplified during the Reform UK annual conference in Birmingham, where Dr. Aseem Malhotra, a cardiologist known for his sceptical views on mRNA technology, made incendiary claims linking cancer diagnoses among royals to vaccination efforts.
Dr. Malhotra’s speech came at a sensitive time, as both King Charles and Princess Kate have publicly battled cancer. King Charles, aged 77, was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February 2024, shortly after undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate. Princess Kate, 43, disclosed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, following major abdominal surgery in January. Though she has since announced her remission as of January 2025, these health issues have become fodder for controversial speculation.
During his presentation, Dr. Malhotra claimed to present findings from Professor Angus Dalgleish, an oncologist at St. George’s, University of London. He stated that it is “highly likely” the Covid vaccines have significantly contributed to the cancers affecting the royal family. Malhotra also referenced support from Steven Hatfill, a biosecurity expert, which further fueled the controversy.
The reaction in the conference hall was one of tension, particularly after Dr. Malhotra linked the royal health crises to the vaccination program. One senior government health figure reported that the atmosphere became uneasy as attendees reacted to the implications of Malhotra’s statements. Many in the audience, including supporters of Reform UK, were visibly uncomfortable with the politicization of the royals’ health battles.
This wave of conspiracy theories has caused distress within the royal family. A palace source described the current period as “extraordinarily difficult,” confirming that King Charles is still undergoing treatment and that Princess Kate is focusing on her recovery. The situation has also drawn attention to Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, who has faced her own health challenges, having battled early-stage breast cancer and malignant melanoma within a year.
The lack of official information regarding the health of royal family members has only intensified speculation. Some conspiracy theorists have even linked past royal health issues to a broader pattern of illness exacerbated by the pandemic. Notably, there have been claims regarding the late Queen Elizabeth II, suggesting she may have secretly fought myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer, in her final years, despite her death certificate citing “old age.”
Medical professionals have rapidly denounced Malhotra’s assertions. The UK Health Security Agency estimates that Covid vaccines have saved approximately 475,000 lives in Britain. Additionally, Cancer Research UK has stated that there is no credible evidence linking Covid vaccines to the development of cancer. Professor Brian Ferguson from the University of Cambridge criticized the conspiracy theory as “meaningless pseudoscience,” emphasizing the insensitivity of exploiting the royal family’s health challenges.
Despite the surrounding controversy, King Charles remains resolute. In a recent message regarding his treatment, he shared positive news about expected improvements in his health. During a broadcast for Stand Up To Cancer, he highlighted the critical importance of early screening, advocating for proactive health measures that counter the fears propagated by those like Dr. Malhotra.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting condemned Malhotra’s remarks as “dangerous extremism” that could dissuade people from getting vaccinated. The fallout from the speech is ongoing, with the General Medical Council reportedly considering an investigation into the claims made. Meanwhile, the royal family continues to prioritize transparency and science over the unfounded theories circulating in various media.
