National Dance Company Wales Unveils New Autumn Tour at Theatr Clwyd
National Dance Company Wales (NDCWales) will present its latest autumn tour, titled Surge | Gwefr, at Theatr Clwyd on October 8 and 9, 2025. This exciting programme features three diverse works from acclaimed choreographers, showcasing both innovative movement and collaborations with notable visual artists and musicians from Wales.
The tour will see the return of Waltz, a visually captivating piece by Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau. Originally performed during NDCWales’ Pulse tour in 2023, this work has been praised for its striking aesthetics, sharp choreography, and dazzling costumes.
In addition to Waltz, audiences can look forward to Infinity Duet, a new creation by choreographer Faye Tan. This piece features two dancers interacting with a swinging sculpture, accompanied by music from Cardiff-based sound artist Richard McReynolds. The costumes for this piece include unique drawings by artist Cecile Johnson Soliz, further enhancing the visual experience.
The final performance in the programme is Mabon, a new work by Welsh choreographer Osian Meilir. Inspired by the ancient tales of the Mabinogion, it showcases eco-friendly animal costumes designed by Becky Davies and an original score composed by triple harpist Cerys Hafana.
David Wilson, Interim Executive Director and Joint CEO of NDCWales, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming performances. “Marcos Morau’s movement style is mesmerising to watch. His work is really hypnotic and Waltz is a huge fan-favourite, so we’re delighted to see the return of this dramatic, compelling and exciting work this autumn alongside two equally vibrant works by Wales-based creators Faye Tan and Osian Meilir,” he stated.
Osian Meilir also shared his excitement, saying, “I’m thrilled to be sharing Mabon with audiences across Wales and beyond. I hope people will feel enchanted by this Welsh folklore and find an eagerness to know more about our rich culture, stories and language.”
The Surge | Gwefr tour will take place across various venues in Wales and England from September to November 2025, before heading to Germany in 2026. All performances will include audio descriptions, with British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted shows scheduled for Cardiff and London.
