Oswestry Man Jailed for Breaching Court Order on Vaping Theft
A man from Oswestry has been sentenced to 12 weeks in jail after breaching a court order linked to a previous theft of vaping products. Iran Lane, aged 30, was already under a three-year criminal behaviour order (CBO) issued in June 2022, which prohibited him from being intoxicated in public spaces within Oswestry and from entering the BP garage on Beatrice Street.
On January 15, 2023, Lane was arrested on suspicion of violating the conditions of his CBO. Following his arrest, he pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching the order. His court appearance on January 23, 2023, at Telford Magistrates Court, resulted in a custodial sentence aimed at curbing his disruptive behaviour.
In addition to the prison term, the court imposed new restrictions on Lane’s CBO, which now prohibits him from entering any public house or licensed nightclub in Oswestry. This adjustment reflects ongoing concerns regarding public safety and order in the area.
Sergeant Stuart Leclere from Oswestry’s Safer Neighbourhood Team expressed hope that the sentence and extended conditions would deter similar behaviour. “I hope this sends a message to anyone intent on causing disorder or committing crime in Oswestry that we remain committed to ensuring that those who are responsible are dealt with,” he stated.
The initial CBO will remain in effect until June 2028. Local authorities and police urge residents to report any sightings of Lane in violation of his CBO or engaging in criminal activities. Reports can be made directly to the West Mercia Police through their official website.
This case underscores the legal system’s approach to addressing repeat offenders and ensuring community safety in Oswestry.
