Bruce Campbell Reveals Cancer Diagnosis, Plans for Future Projects
Actor Bruce Campbell, widely recognized for his role as Ash Williams in the cult classic horror film series Evil Dead, has announced that he has been diagnosed with cancer that is “treatable, not curable.” The 67-year-old actor shared this news via social media, expressing that the diagnosis came as a significant shock to him.
In a candid post on X, Campbell addressed his fans, stating, “Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s go with that – I’m having one of those.” He further elaborated on his condition, noting, “It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable’ not ‘curable.’ I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me too.”
The actor is currently preparing for the release of his new film Ernie + Emma, in which he stars alongside Cerina Vincent. Despite his diagnosis, Campbell hopes to promote the film this autumn. However, he acknowledged that he must cancel some personal and professional commitments to accommodate his upcoming treatment.
Bruce Campbell explained, “The good news is, I’m not gonna go into any more detail. I’m posting this because, professionally, a few things will have to change – appearances and cons and work in general need to take a back seat to treatment.” He emphasized his intention to focus on recovery over the summer, stating, “My plan is to get as well as I possibly can so that I can tour with my new movie this fall.”
The actor expressed disappointment about having to cancel several fan conventions this year. He remarked, “There are several cons this year that I have to cancel. Big regrets on my part. Treatment needs and professional obligations don’t always go hand-in-hand.”
Campbell reassured his supporters, asserting that he expects to remain active in the industry for the foreseeable future. “Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-b**** and I have great support, so I expect to be around for a while,” he said.
He thanked his fans for their ongoing support, stating, “As always, you’re the greatest fans in the world and I hope to see you soon!” The actor’s message reflects his resilience and determination to continue engaging with his audience despite the challenges he is facing.
Bruce Campbell’s contributions to film and television have earned him a dedicated following. In addition to the Evil Dead franchise, he has appeared in notable works such as Crimewave (1985) and Maniac Cop (1988), as well as the TV series Xena: Warrior Princess. His fans eagerly await his return to the screen and hope for his swift recovery.
