Family Appeals for Urgent Help as Briton Fights for Life in Thailand
The mother of a 23-year-old British man, Tiger Duggan, has made an urgent plea for assistance as her son fights for his life in Thailand. Following a severe motorcycle accident on January 16, Duggan sustained critical injuries after being struck by an oncoming vehicle while riding in Koh Samui. Initially treated at a local hospital, he was later transferred to a larger facility in Bangkok, where he remains unconscious and dependent on life support.
Duggan’s family is now advocating for his return to the UK, hoping he can be stabilized for the journey. To facilitate this, an online fundraising campaign has been initiated by Duggan’s mother, Lisa Duggan, and supported by her colleagues in the nursing profession. The appeal has successfully raised over £115,000 to help cover the costs of medical transport.
In an emotional video shared on the fundraising page, Lisa expressed her desperation: “It broke my heart, my two boys. I am begging you please help us, help us get this boy home, whichever way that may look. Please reach deep into your pockets. Every penny counts.”
While Duggan had taken out travel insurance prior to his trip, the family has reported complications with the claims process. A family spokesperson highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating, “Although Tiger does have travel insurance, we have been informed that the process is lengthy and approvals can take time. Unfortunately, he cannot afford to wait, and this emergency transfer must happen immediately to give him the best possible chance.”
Duggan relocated from Milton Keynes to Perth, Western Australia, two years ago to work with Westgold Resources, a gold mining company. His colleagues have rallied around Lisa, emphasizing her dedication and compassion as a nurse. They noted, “Lisa is not just a colleague to us; she is a compassionate, dedicated nurse and a deeply caring person who gives so much of herself to others every single day. Now, her family needs that same care and kindness returned to them.”
Support has also come from local officials, including Emily Darlington, the Labour MP for Milton Keynes Central. She stated, “I am shocked and saddened to hear about the devastating accident involving Tiger, a young man from our community who is now fighting for his life in Thailand.”
As the fundraising efforts continue, the family remains hopeful that with sufficient support, Tiger Duggan can return home to receive the necessary care in a timely manner. Every contribution, no matter how small, is seen as a step toward helping them in this critical time.
