Neil Buchanan Returns to TV, Surprises Fans with Ageless Look
Neil Buchanan, the beloved host of the children’s television programme Art Attack, has made a notable return to the screen after a fourteen-year absence. Fans are expressing their astonishment at how remarkably youthful the 69-year-old looks, reigniting memories of his creative flair that captivated audiences throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.
A Nostalgic Comeback
Buchanan’s latest venture involves promoting the revival of the classic Müller Corner yoghurt, specifically the rhubarb crumble flavour, which will hit supermarket shelves later this year. This marks a significant milestone, as it has been nearly three decades since the flavour’s original launch. His last television appearance was on Celebrity Juice in 2012.
Collaborating with LADBible, Buchanan has created a large-scale artwork reminiscent of his days on Art Attack. The installation features a collection of nostalgic items, such as cassette tapes and school lunch boxes, perfectly echoing the essence of his earlier work. “It’s been nearly two decades since I last took on a project like this,” Buchanan said, “but when I heard the Müller Corner Originals Rhubarb Crumble-inspired yoghurt was coming back, I had to get involved. It’s actually my favourite flavour!”
The campaign has garnered a massive response from fans. One enthusiast on social media exclaimed, “It’s Neil Buchanan from Art Attack! Am I stuck in a time loop? I swear the last time I saw him was twenty years ago and he looked exactly like this!” Another fan noted, “He looks the same. He always seemed such a top guy.” Jokes about his seemingly unchanged appearance have also surfaced, with comments like, “Has he been cryogenically frozen for all these years?”
From Art to Music and Beyond
Buchanan’s passion for art began in his youth when he was constantly creating. “My dad noticed I had a flair for art and he’d sit and draw with me for hours,” he recalls on his website. Educated at the Liverpool Institute High School for Boys, which later became the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, he developed his artistic skills significantly. His time on Art Attack was marked by remarkable projects, including a portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II made from £250,000 worth of £10 notes.
Since leaving Art Attack, Buchanan has continued to pursue his artistic interests while also reviving his musical career. He rejoined his heavy rock band, Marseilles, which he originally joined in 1976. The band has released four albums and six singles, touring alongside renowned acts such as Judas Priest and Whitesnake.
Buchanan also has a deep admiration for Disney, considering its founder, Walt Disney, as “the greatest ideas man that ever lived.” He was involved in creating an attraction for Disneyland Paris, although he remains discreet about the details.
In a twist that captured public interest, speculation emerged in September 2020 suggesting that Buchanan could be the elusive street artist Banksy. The conjecture stemmed from his artistic talents and the ambitious nature of his projects. Despite the swirling rumors, a statement on his official website firmly denied any connection: “There is no truth in the rumour whatsoever.”
As Neil Buchanan steps back into the spotlight, his return not only rekindles fond memories for many but also showcases his enduring creativity and passion for art and music. With the revival of a nostalgic yoghurt flavour and an impressive artwork, he continues to inspire a new generation while reminding fans of his significant impact in children’s television.
