Inverness Restores Dublin Flights, Opening Pathway to America
Direct flights between Inverness and Dublin will resume on May 21, 2024. The new service, operated by Aer Lingus Regional and managed by Emerald Airlines, will run twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays. This development is significant as it re-establishes a vital connection from the Scottish Highlands to Ireland’s capital, while also facilitating onward travel to the United States.
The announcement was made on Friday, with Dan Mason, the manager of Inverness Airport, expressing enthusiasm for the return of this popular route. He stated, “It is exciting to see the return of direct flights between Inverness and Dublin, restoring a route that has been missed by passengers across the Highlands and Islands.”
Mason highlighted the importance of the service in providing access to Aer Lingus transatlantic flights to major cities such as New York and Boston. He added, “This service not only reconnects the region with Ireland’s capital but it also provides onward access to North America via Aer Lingus transatlantic flights, including New York and Boston, with convenient connection times through Dublin.”
The reintroduction of this route is particularly noteworthy as it marks Inverness Airport‘s first collaboration with Aer Lingus. Mason emphasized the positive implications for regional connectivity, stating, “Welcoming Aer Lingus to Inverness for the first time is a positive step for regional connectivity and passenger choice, and we are thrilled to work with the airline as the route launches and develops.”
Ian Lough, head of commercial at Emerald Airlines, expressed confidence in the new service’s potential. “We are delighted to be commencing this new connection to Dublin and have no doubt it will be a popular one,” he remarked. He noted that the partnership with Inverness Airport would be crucial for ensuring the route’s success.
The flights are set to operate during the summer season, allowing travelers from the Highlands to easily connect to flights bound for North America. This restoration of direct flights is expected to enhance travel options for residents and visitors alike, providing a much-anticipated link to Dublin and beyond.
As the launch date approaches, both Aer Lingus and Emerald Airlines are preparing for a successful rollout of the new service, eagerly anticipating the positive response from travelers.
