Kotor Man Sentenced to 60 Days for Drug Test Refusal
A resident of Kotor, identified as V. V., has been sentenced to 60 days in prison after failing to stop at a Stop sign and refusing to undergo drug and alcohol testing. The ruling was delivered on January 15, 2024, by Judge Jelena Stanišić during an urgent court proceeding in Budva.
According to a statement from the President of the Municipal Court in Budva, Marko Đukanović, the incident occurred when V. V. did not comply with a directive from a police officer from the Kotor Police Station. Instead of stopping, he continued driving towards Radanovići. Following this, he declined to submit to testing for alcohol and drugs, which further complicated his legal situation.
In addition to the prison sentence, V. V. has been issued a six-month driving ban. This decision reflects the seriousness with which the court treats violations of traffic regulations, especially those involving impaired driving. The police will enforce the maximum penalty points on his driving record as mandated by the ruling.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and judicial authorities in Montenegro to enhance road safety and deter dangerous driving behaviors. The authorities maintain that compliance with traffic laws is essential for public safety and will continue to impose strict penalties for violations.
As societal concerns regarding road safety grow, the repercussions of such violations serve as a reminder of the legal responsibilities that drivers must uphold.
