Montenegro’s President Calls for Unity Amid Global Uncertainty
In a recent address, Jakov Milatovic, the President of Montenegro, emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among citizens, regardless of their national, religious, or linguistic backgrounds. Speaking on January 18, 2026, Milatovic highlighted the critical need for social cohesion and stable institutions in the face of increasing global uncertainties and diverging positions from key strategic allies, including the United States and the European Union.
Milatovic’s remarks came as Montenegro grapples with political complexities and evolving international relations. He called for an open and honest dialogue among all political actors in the country, stressing that political stubbornness and actions driven by narrow party interests must be set aside. “The state interest must come above all else,” he stated, underlining the necessity for leaders to prioritize the collective good over personal or partisan agendas.
The President pointed out that Montenegro’s strength lies in its diversity, which should be viewed as an advantage rather than a source of division. He asserted, “We are closest to each other, regardless of national, religious, or linguistic affiliation, and this fact must be the starting point of every responsible policy.” Milatovic described Montenegro as a shared home, noting that its stability and progress demand serious work, consistency, and a common goal.
As he urged citizens to gather around this common objective, Milatovic reminded them that a stable state is built through long-term, thoughtful decisions. His comments reflect a recognition of the challenges Montenegro faces amid shifting geopolitical landscapes and the importance of fostering a unified national identity.
In conclusion, President Milatovic’s message resonates with the need for a collaborative approach to governance and societal development. His call for understanding and cooperation among all Montenegrins serves as a reminder of the potential for collective strength in a time of uncertainty.
