TGI Friday’s Closes Two Scottish Locations Amid Administration Crisis

Two branches of TGI Friday’s in Scotland have been permanently closed following the American restaurant chain’s entry into administration. The closures at the Aberdeen Beach and Edinburgh’s Castle Street locations come after the Liberty Bar and Restaurant Group, which oversees TGI Friday’s operations in the UK, filed a notice of intent to appoint administrators just days before Christmas.

Earlier in December, Liberty Bar and Restaurant Group had already filed an administration notice, and it has now been confirmed that a total of 16 restaurants across the UK have been shut down, affecting approximately 456 workers. The company took this step despite securing a pre-pack administration deal with Sugarloaf, the entity behind TGI Friday’s global brand.

Impact on Staff and Future Operations

According to administrators from Interpath, the decision to close these locations was necessary despite the ongoing restructuring efforts. The pre-pack deal allows 33 restaurants to remain operational, preserving around 1,384 jobs across the remaining locations. This development comes as part of a broader strategy to stabilize the brand in the UK market.

The closures highlight the challenges facing the hospitality sector, particularly amid changing consumer habits and economic pressures. The operational shifts and closures reflect the ongoing difficulties many businesses encounter in the current economic climate.

List of Closed Restaurants

In addition to the two Scottish closures, the administration process has resulted in the shutdown of 14 other TGI Friday’s locations throughout the UK. The full details of these closures will be communicated to affected employees and stakeholders in due course.

The situation underscores the importance of adaptive strategies for restaurants in a competitive landscape. As TGI Friday’s navigates through this period, industry observers will be watching closely to see how the brand evolves and responds to the challenges ahead.
