Workmen Disguise Fails in Attempted ATM Heist at Hospital
Two men, disguised as workmen, attempted to steal an automated teller machine (ATM) from the Royal Victoria Children’s Hospital in Melbourne on the morning of February 7, 2024. The incident occurred around 10:00 local time, raising security concerns at a facility dedicated to caring for children.
Witnesses reported seeing the two suspects using a trolley to transport the ATM. Hospital staff quickly alerted the authorities after noticing suspicious activity. The swift response from law enforcement ensured that the perpetrators were unable to complete the theft.
According to the Victoria Police, the suspects fled the scene before officers arrived. Investigators are currently reviewing security footage in an effort to identify the individuals involved. The ATM, which serves both hospital staff and visitors, remained intact following the attempted theft.
Security Measures Under Review
In light of this incident, hospital officials are reassessing security measures to protect both patients and staff. The Royal Victoria Children’s Hospital has long been a trusted institution in the community, and officials are committed to ensuring the safety of all who enter its premises.
“We take the safety of our patients and staff very seriously,”
stated a hospital representative. “We are working closely with law enforcement to enhance our security protocols.”
Local residents expressed shock at the brazen attempt, emphasizing the importance of a safe environment for the vulnerable children receiving care at the hospital. Many have called for increased security in the area, particularly for facilities that cater to sensitive populations.
As investigations continue, police encourage anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Community cooperation could prove vital in ensuring that those responsible are apprehended swiftly.
The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by institutions in maintaining safety and security. With the ongoing rise in crime targeting financial institutions, authorities are on high alert, ensuring that preventative measures are in place to deter future attempts.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses, and police are hopeful that with community support, they can resolve this case effectively.
