Teen Driver Fails to Stop for Police in Larne, Fined £300
An 18-year-old motorist has been fined following an incident in which he failed to stop for police in Larne. Joel Robinson, residing at Moyle Parade, admitted to failing to stop and driving without due care and attention during a court hearing on July 5, 2025. The events unfolded at approximately 01:50 when police observed his vehicle “travelling at speed.”
During the court proceedings at Ballymena Magistrates Court, it was revealed that officers attempted to pursue Robinson’s vehicle after noticing its excessive speed. As police activated their lights and turned to follow, the motorist “accelerated sharply,” prompting further pursuit until another police vehicle managed to catch up with him.
Robinson’s defence solicitor explained that the young driver was aware he had been exceeding the speed limit. When the police began their pursuit, he experienced a moment of panic, leading to his failure to stop.
In light of his actions, the court imposed a fine of £300 and added five penalty points to Robinson’s driving record. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations, particularly for young and inexperienced drivers.
The court’s decision underscores the legal consequences of failing to comply with police directives and the potential dangers posed to both the driver and the public when high-speed driving occurs.
