Georgian National Arrested for €13,500 Theft in Podgorica Furniture Store
A Georgian national, identified as A.V., has been arrested in Podgorica after allegedly stealing €13,500 from a furniture store. The incident occurred on March 7, 2026, at the “N.” furniture salon, where A.V. reportedly took the money, prompting staff and security personnel to detain him until police arrived.
The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica has confirmed that A.V. is being held for up to 72 hours as authorities investigate the serious theft charge. According to the prosecutor’s office, there are significant concerns regarding the potential for A.V. to flee, given that he is a foreign national.
Witnesses at the scene reported that after the theft, A.V. attempted to leave the premises but was quickly intercepted by employees and security staff. The swift action of the store’s personnel allowed for his detention until law enforcement arrived to take him into custody.
The incident has raised concerns about security in retail environments, particularly concerning foreign nationals. As investigations continue, authorities are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the theft and any potential links to organized crime.
The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office has emphasized the importance of addressing such criminal activities, especially in light of the potential risks posed by foreign suspects. A.V. is expected to face formal charges following the investigation, pending a review of the evidence gathered during his detention.
This case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by businesses in maintaining security and the importance of rapid response from staff in such situations.
