Households Advised to Clean Fridges Ahead of Christmas Rush
As the holiday season approaches, households across the UK are being advised to clean their fridges in preparation for the influx of food that accompanies Christmas celebrations. With decorations being hung and festive menus planned, it is essential to ensure that kitchen appliances are ready for the busy weeks ahead.
One of the most crucial tasks is to thoroughly clean the fridge before stocking it with traditional Christmas fare, including turkey, sides, and festive desserts. According to cleaning experts from Merry Maids, this task may seem daunting, but it can be accomplished with just a few simple supplies: warm water, a sponge, and washing-up liquid.
Merry Maids outlines a straightforward method for cleaning the fridge effectively. First, remove all food items to ensure a clear workspace. Next, soak shelves and drawers in washing-up liquid while using a mixture of warm water and the same detergent to wipe down the interior walls. After cleaning, it is important to dry all surfaces with a kitchen roll before returning the shelves and drawers to their original places. A clean fridge not only looks better but also provides ample space for holiday treats, as emphasized by the experts: “A clean and less cluttered fridge will allow space for all pigs in blankets, wine, and pudding.”
Consumer advocates at Which? recommend that households aim to clean their fridges every three to four months. They suggest timing deep cleans for moments when the fridge is least stocked. “The day before your scheduled big shop would be ideal,” they state, noting that this reduces the effort required to empty the fridge and eliminates the need to find temporary storage for food during the cleaning process.
As families prepare for Christmas gatherings, prioritizing fridge cleanliness can contribute to a smoother hosting experience. With many households planning to welcome guests, the advice to clean now serves as a timely reminder to ensure that kitchens are in top shape for the festive celebrations ahead.
