Kathy Lette Celebrates Life and Love at 67 with Newfound Confidence
In a revealing episode of the Second Act podcast, author Kathy Lette shared her reflections on life, love, and confidence at the age of 67. The episode, sponsored by Gold Collagen, highlights Lette’s journey following a challenging divorce and her experiences dating a younger man, Irish musician Brian O’Doherty.
Lette, renowned for her sharp and witty novels such as How to Kill Your Husband and The Revenge Club, described her current life stage as the best time for women. “It’s the best time of a woman’s life, without doubt,” she stated. “You’ve got more confidence and no longer care what people think. You also have the best sex in your life, because you’re comfortable in your own skin. It’s so liberating.”
Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Joy
Her invigorated outlook comes in the wake of a “devastating divorce” that occurred during her menopausal years, a time she candidly referred to as emotionally taxing. “I got a divorce in my late 50s,” Lette explained. “It is devastating, emotionally draining, and a lot of anguish. But it wasn’t helped that I was going through the menopause. My confidence was lower than Kim Kardashian’s bikini line.”
Despite these challenges, Lette found new love and joy in her life. She recounted the moment she first heard O’Doherty play Bach in a London park, which marked a turning point in her journey. “Meeting Brian changed things,” she noted, emphasizing the positive aspects of dating someone younger and how it has impacted her confidence.
Lette also discussed the importance of friendships during midlife, stating, “They are my Wonderbra – they support me and lift me up.” This emphasis on female camaraderie is a recurring theme in her narrative about navigating the complexities of life after 60.
A Call to Action for Women
Lette’s message resonates with many, encouraging women to embrace their desires and dreams without hesitation. “The second act for women is about going forth and being fabulous. Get the bucket list and tick it off. Whatever you want to do, do it now,” she urged listeners.
Her insights on sexuality and self-acceptance at an older age serve as a reminder of the vitality and joy that can accompany this stage of life.
