Greens Surge Past Labour in Poll as Political Landscape Shifts

The survey, conducted with over 2,000 participants on October 15 and 16, 2023, shows the Green Party, led by Zack Polanski, registering at 21%, an increase of four points from the previous week. This surge comes on the heels of the Green Party’s significant victory in the Gorton and Denton by-election, during which Labour fell to a disappointing third place.

In this poll, Nigel Farage‘s Reform UK maintains the lead at 23%, despite experiencing a one-point decline. Both Labour and the Conservative Party find themselves tied for third place, each garnering 16%, a decrease of two points for both parties. This marks the lowest support registered for Labour in the history of YouGov polling, highlighting a troubling trend for Sir Keir Starmer and his party.

The Liberal Democrats remain stable at 14%, showing no change from the previous week. In a response to the shifting dynamics, the Prime Minister stated that a “mainstream majority” of voters do not desire either Farage or Polanski to assume the role of Prime Minister. This comment was directed to Labour MPs following their disappointing results in the by-election.

Concerns regarding electoral integrity have also emerged in light of the by-election results. Reports suggest that some voters may have been pressured to vote in a specific manner, raising questions about the fairness of the election process. In a recent speech, Kemi Badenoch, a senior member of the Conservative Party, emphasized her party’s commitment to addressing the perceived rise of “separatism” in the UK.
