The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is prepared to withstand the repercussions of recent Iranian attacks, according to Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Lana Nusseibeh. In an interview with Euronews, Nusseibeh emphasized that the UAE has absorbed more missile and drone strikes than Israel since the onset of hostilities, illustrating the pressing nature of the ongoing crisis.

Nusseibeh articulated that the UAE is not merely defending its territory and citizens, but also its vision of “a model of coexistence, of tolerance, of peace for the wider region.” She condemned Iranian actions as attempts to export “nihilism” and asserted that such ideologies cannot be tolerated under the UAE’s watch. With over 1,800 missiles and drones launched at the UAE in the last two weeks, she insisted that Iran must cease its aggressive behavior and recognize its isolation on the international stage.

In her remarks, Nusseibeh made it clear that while the UAE seeks diplomatic resolutions and does not advocate for military escalation, it remains steadfast in protecting what it has built. “We will be tough through this,” she stated, highlighting the importance of maintaining the UAE’s developmental model in the face of external threats.

Global Energy Crisis and Economic Stability

The UAE is also addressing the global energy crisis exacerbated by Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Nusseibeh explained that such actions not only affect energy prices but also threaten global food security, impacting consumers worldwide. She reassured global suppliers of the UAE’s commitment to remaining a responsible energy provider, stating, “We will continue to do what we can.”

Amid rising concerns about stability in the Gulf, Nusseibeh affirmed the UAE’s focus on ensuring the safety of its residents, including the 500,000 European nationals living in the country. She expressed confidence that they would not only remain safe but would also thrive amid the challenges.

The resilience of the UAE’s economy, she noted, is evident through the strong recovery of aviation operations, with national airlines Emirates and Etihad achieving a return to 50% of normal operations during the ongoing crisis. Most travelers who sought to leave during the early phase of conflict have already done so, but many have chosen to stay, reflecting public confidence in the nation’s stability.

Future Economic Strategies and Technological Investments

Nusseibeh discussed the UAE’s long-term economic strategy, which has evolved significantly over the past fifty years. She emphasized that the nation’s development model has adapted to withstand geopolitical shocks. The UAE has transitioned from a pearl-diving economy to a global exporter of not only hydrocarbons but also commodities, foreign direct investment, and clean energy.

Investments in emerging industries, including a $1.5 trillion partnership with the United States in artificial intelligence infrastructure, are designed to maintain the UAE’s competitiveness in a rapidly changing global landscape. Nusseibeh acknowledged that while no government can entirely control its geopolitical environment, the UAE remains committed to safeguarding its citizens and ensuring their future prosperity.

In conclusion, Nusseibeh highlighted that the UAE’s transformation and resilience stem from decades of investment and diversification. As the region faces unprecedented challenges, the UAE’s focus on stability and economic development continues to play a critical role in shaping its future amid a complex international landscape.
