Moray Libraries Unveil New Digital Research Tools for Members
Moray Council has enhanced its library services by introducing two significant digital research tools for all members. The newly available resources, the British Newspaper Archive and Ancestry Library Edition, provide users with unprecedented access to historical documents and genealogical data.
The British Newspaper Archive allows library members to explore millions of newspaper articles from around the world. Accessible at local libraries, this resource enables users to conduct free searches and delve into a vast collection of historical newspapers using their library membership card.
In addition to historical research, Moray libraries now offer the Ancestry Library Edition, which facilitates family history research. Users can uncover valuable information such as records of births, deaths, marriages, military service, and more, including UK census records, parish records, and immigration and emigration details.
Accessing Resources and Facilities
Library PCs are available for public use, although it is advisable to book in advance to ensure access during busy periods. Alternatively, users can connect to public Wi-Fi and access these resources from personal devices, providing flexibility for research on the go.
Cllr Kathleen Robertson, Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Children’s and Leisure Services committee, expressed enthusiasm regarding the new offerings. She stated, “We’re delighted to offer these new digital resources to our community. Whether you’re researching your family tree or exploring historical events, these tools provide a wealth of information right at your fingertips.”
The introduction of these tools marks a significant step in enhancing the educational resources available to the community. By leveraging technology, Moray libraries aim to foster a deeper understanding of both personal histories and broader historical contexts among their users.
As the demand for accessible information continues to grow, these resources position Moray Council libraries as vital hubs for research and learning in the region. With the British Newspaper Archive and Ancestry Library Edition now at their disposal, library members can embark on explorations of history and genealogy like never before.
