TEDxAberystwyth 2026 Explores Humanity’s Essence Amid Rapid Change
The eighth edition of TEDxAberystwyth is set to take place on February 28, 2026, at Arad Goch, Bath Street, bringing together an array of speakers to explore the theme “Verifying You Are Human.” As technology continues to evolve, the event aims to delve into what fundamentally defines humanity in our rapidly changing world.
Organized by a dedicated volunteer team, this year’s program features a diverse lineup of speakers who will present innovative ideas, perspectives, and personal narratives. The topics range from the implications of artificial intelligence on mental health to the significance of cultural identity and community collaboration.
Hannah Dee, a Senior Lecturer at Aberystwyth University, will discuss the human stakes involved in AI and cybersecurity. Meanwhile, Imogen Davies, a writer and academic, will reflect on the intricacies of Welsh culture and the preservation of minority languages.
Academia will also be represented by Hamilton Morrin, an Academic Neuropsychiatrist and Wellcome Doctoral Fellow at King’s College London, who will investigate the complex interactions between AI technology and mental health.
Another notable speaker, Jule Neumann, a researcher at Aberystwyth University, will focus on the effects of lunar cycles and tides on marine life, shedding light on the often-overlooked environmental influences on humanity.
Local voices are set to enrich the event as well. Alexander Holloway, a conscious dance teacher, will present his vision of dance as an act of rebellion and personal expression. Hanna Jones, the Young People’s Senior Peer Research Coordinator at The McPin Foundation, will emphasize the importance of peer-led research among youth.
Additionally, Zuzanna Karwowska, a computational biologist, will explore the surprising ways the gut microbiome affects human health. Local chef and fermenter Sam Cooper will celebrate the benefits of the humble black oat, while artist Naomi Heath will discuss the power of creativity through community collaboration.
The event will also feature Melanie Owen, a Welsh writer and comedian, who will address the often-ignored topic of adult friendship break-ups. Lastly, Berit Bliesemann de Guevara, a Professor of International Politics at Aberystwyth University, will present her work on fostering non-violent communities in the face of conflict.
With a history of selling out in previous years, the TEDxAberystwyth team is excited to welcome attendees for a day filled with enriching discussions and insights. Tickets for the event are available on Eventbrite, promising an engaging experience for all who wish to explore the essence of humanity in today’s world.
