Chelsea Dominates Hull City 4-0 in FA Cup Clash at MKM Stadium
Chelsea triumphed over Hull City with an emphatic 4-0 victory in the FA Cup, effectively ending Hull’s campaign at the MKM Stadium on March 15, 2024. This match marked a significant return for Hull’s manager, Liam Rosenior, who faced his former club for the first time since his dismissal 21 months ago. Chelsea’s comfortable win came courtesy of two goals from Pedro Neto, along with strikes from Jorrel Hato and Estevao.
The match began energetically, with the first opportunity arising just five minutes in. Neto found space at the edge of the box but sent his shot over the crossbar. Hull’s response was immediate; a half-cleared corner led to Regan Slater‘s half-volley, which was blocked by Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho. Hull’s goalkeeper, Dillon Phillips, showcased his skills by denying Garnacho in a one-on-one situation following a brilliant pass from Moises Caicedo.
Despite Hull’s early chances, it was Chelsea who struck first. With five minutes remaining in the first half, a well-executed passing move culminated in Neto finding the bottom left corner from 20 yards out, leaving Phillips with little chance. Shortly after the interval, Phillips again came to Hull’s rescue, making a remarkable save from an Andrey Santos header. However, the pressure mounted as Hato bundled in from a corner, extending Chelsea’s lead to 2-0.
The match’s turning point occurred in the 59th minute when Estevao scored into an open net, following a slick pass from Liam Delap. Chelsea’s dominance continued, with Delap assisting Neto for his second goal of the night, putting the score at 4-0 in front of a travelling contingent of Chelsea supporters.
Despite the scoreline, Hull City pushed for a consolation goal in the closing minutes. Ryan Giles made a promising run into the box, but Sanchez was alert, making his first save of the second half. As the match concluded, Rosenior received a warm reception from the Hull faithful, reflecting the respect he earned during his tenure at the club.
The final whistle confirmed Chelsea’s progression into the fifth round of the FA Cup, while Hull City now faces a crucial period ahead in their Championship campaign, with 15 matches remaining that could significantly impact their promotion aspirations.
Attendance for the match was recorded at 24,320, showcasing the support for both teams in this decisive FA Cup encounter.
In terms of player performances, Neto shone brightly with a score of 9, showcasing his importance to Chelsea’s attacking threat. Hull’s players, while battling valiantly, struggled against Chelsea’s offensive firepower, with no player exceeding a score of 7 in the ratings.
As the tournament advances, Chelsea will look to build on this momentum, while Hull City will need to regroup and focus on their league ambitions.
