Everton Miss Out on Transfer Target Arevalo as January Window Opens
Everton’s pursuit of young striker Jeremy Arevalo has come to an end as the player has completed a transfer to VfB Stuttgart for £6 million (€7 million). This development comes as Everton manager David Moyes prepares for an active January transfer window, aiming to strengthen his squad amid a competitive Premier League season.
With the halfway point of the season approaching, Moyes is keen to bolster Everton’s attacking options. One name frequently mentioned is Ivan Toney, who Everton reportedly would love to secure this month. As they look to enhance their firepower, the club may focus on loan signings, potentially saving funds for a more substantial summer investment ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Transfer Setbacks and Future Plans
Everton’s January transfer plans have already faced challenges, particularly with the disappointing performance of striker Beto. The 27-year-old has scored only one goal in 19 Premier League appearances, prompting calls for a new centre-forward. Thierno Barry, another forward, is still adapting to English football, making the addition of a proven striker essential.
Despite Everton’s interest, Arevalo’s transfer to Stuttgart means the club will need to explore other options. According to the German newspaper Bild, Stuttgart secured Arevalo’s signature after beating out interest from clubs such as Strasbourg, Eintracht Frankfurt, Lazio, and Roma. Stuttgart’s commitment to signing Arevalo permanently was a significant factor in the deal.
Evaluating Everton’s Needs
Given the current struggles in their attacking lineup, Moyes should prioritize finding an established striker who can lead the line effectively. With Beto and Barry currently providing limited options, Everton’s strategy may need to shift towards securing a reliable goal-scorer before considering younger, versatile talents like Arevalo.
Arevalo has demonstrated his potential, scoring eight goals in 18 La Liga 2 appearances for Racing Santander this season, showcasing his ability to contribute in various attacking roles. Nevertheless, Everton’s immediate priority remains to solidify their goal-scoring capabilities, making the search for a more experienced forward urgent.
As the January transfer window progresses, Everton fans will be keenly watching for developments that could reshape their squad and enhance their standing in the Premier League.
