Free Skateboarding Workshops Launch at New Grantham Skate Park
A series of free skateboarding workshops will take place across multiple locations in Lincolnshire during the February half-term. These sessions, designed for both beginners and experienced skaters, aim to promote the sport and coincide with the grand opening of the new Grantham Skate Park.
The workshops are scheduled from February 16 to February 19, 2024, at various skate parks in Deeping St James, Stamford, Bourne, and Grantham. Participants are encouraged to bring their own skateboards, but beginners will have the option to borrow equipment. Each session will provide an opportunity for skaters to learn new skills or showcase their existing talents. No prior booking is required, allowing for a flexible drop-in format.
Officially opening on February 19 at 10:30 AM, the Grantham Skate Park was developed by Fearless Ramps on the site of an old basketball court. It marks the first skate park in Grantham in over a decade, catering to skateboarders, roller skaters, BMX riders, and scooter users of all ages and abilities.
Paul Stokes, deputy leader of South Kesteven Council and cabinet member for leisure and culture, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming events. He stated, “We’re partnering with Silver Birch Skate and ImageSkool to make each session an event to remember.” Stokes emphasized the importance of the new facility, which has generated considerable excitement among local skaters.
The workshops will be held at the following times each day:
– February 16: Deepings Skate Park at 11:00 AM, 11:45 AM, 12:45 PM, and 1:30 PM
– February 17: Stamford Skate Park at the same times
– February 18: Bourne Skate Park at the same times
– February 19: Grantham Skate Park at the same times
In addition to the skateboarding workshops, there will be a BMX stunt show at the Market Deeping BMX Track on Saturday, February 21, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This event will also offer attendees the chance to engage in street art and decorate their own equipment.
These initiatives reflect a community effort to enhance recreational facilities and encourage youth engagement in sports. The workshops and events are expected to attract a diverse group of participants, fostering a vibrant skateboarding culture in the region.
