The initiative was organized in response to a call for assistance from the Lossiemouth Community Council, highlighting the club’s commitment to the community amid “exceptionally tough” conditions.

Responses to the community council’s social media post included heartfelt gratitude from individuals, including school janitor Martin Inkson. He expressed his appreciation, stating that the club’s contributions would “make my job a lot easier tomorrow.” The community council acknowledged the “fantastic response” to their appeal and extended a “huge thank you” to club chairman Alex Lauriston and the entire Lossiemouth United family.

The football club also opened its social club to provide a respite for families struggling during school closures. Offering a variety of games, hot drinks, and cold beverages, the initiative aimed to alleviate the stress parents face during this challenging time. John Todd, the club’s secretary, mentioned that the decision to provide these services came quickly after schools were announced to be closed, reflecting the club’s ability to respond to community needs effectively.

Todd, who has been involved with Lossiemouth United for over 25 years, emphasized the club’s renewed focus on community service. He noted that the public has “embraced” the club’s efforts since its return in 2022 following a six-year hiatus. “We’ve got a different kind of ethos now,” he stated, highlighting a strong sense of solidarity among members. “We are genuinely part of a community and we are bound, as a responsibility within that community, to do what we can for others.”

In addition to their recent initiatives during the cold weather, Lossiemouth United has been active in various fundraising and charitable activities over the past year. The club has provided Christmas gifts to residents in sheltered housing in both Elgin and Lossiemouth, and raised funds for the Scottish Cot Death Trust through a legends game. Another notable achievement includes supporting the Ladybird Group nursery by opening the social club for a community festive event.
