Daughter of Ian Huntley Calls for Ashes to Be Flushed Away

The daughter of child murderer Ian Huntley has publicly expressed her desire for his ashes to be “flushed down the toilet” following his death at the age of 52. Samantha Bryan, 27, made these remarks shortly after Huntley’s passing, stating he “isn’t worth a funeral.” Huntley’s notoriety stems from the tragic murders of ten-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in August 2002, a case that shocked the United Kingdom.

In her first statement after his death, Bryan strongly condemned her father, asserting that he does not deserve a grave or any form of memorial. She remarked, “He shouldn’t have the dignity of a funeral and grave. Funerals are supposed to be about celebrating someone’s life, and there’s nothing about him to celebrate.”

Huntley, who had been serving a life sentence, died in a hospital following a severe beating in prison. He was attacked with a metal pole on February 26, 2024, which left him in a critically injured state, ultimately rendering him blind and in a “vegetative” condition. His life support was turned off shortly before his death, which was confirmed by Durham Constabulary on the morning of February 28.

The Ministry of Justice characterized Huntley’s crimes as “one of the most shocking and devastating cases in our nation’s history.” Bryan’s sentiments reflect a broader disdain within the community of Soham, where many feel that he is not worth their time or consideration. She stated, “I want people to forget him,” stressing her wish to prevent any potential memorial that could attract “freaks or weirdos” seeking to pay twisted respect to him.

Following the incident that led to his death, a police investigation was launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack. A spokesman for the police noted that a file is being prepared for the Crown Prosecution Service, although, as of now, no arrests or charges have been made in connection with the case.

The community’s feelings towards Huntley remain overwhelmingly negative, and Bryan’s statements resonate with those who have long sought to distance themselves from the legacy of his horrific actions. The intense emotions surrounding his death highlight the profound impact of his crimes on the lives of the victims’ families and the broader public.
