Emirates Resumes Flights to Dubai After Temporary Suspension
Emirates Airlines has announced the resumption of all flights to and from Dubai following a temporary suspension due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East. The update, shared via the airline’s official account on X on the morning of March 7, 2024, at approximately 11:08 AM Dubai time, initially warned passengers to avoid heading to the airport. This advisory has since been revoked, allowing passengers with confirmed bookings to proceed to the airport.
In its updated communication, Emirates stated, “Our post from 11:08 AM Dubai time regarding operational status is no longer current and has been deleted to avoid causing unnecessary confusion. Emirates has resumed operations.” The airline reassured passengers that those with bookings for flights scheduled for the afternoon could continue to the airport. This includes individuals transiting through Dubai, provided their connecting flights are also operating.
Passengers are encouraged to check the latest flight schedules and booking options through the airline’s website at http://emirat.es/nowoperating. Emirates emphasized that it continues to monitor the evolving situation and will adjust its operational schedule as necessary. The airline also expressed gratitude for its customers’ understanding and patience, highlighting the safety of passengers and crew as its highest priority.
Recent Incidents Prompt Temporary Suspension
The flight suspension followed reports of multiple explosions heard in Dubai, which Emirati authorities attributed to “a minor incident resulting from the fall of debris after an interception,” as reported by Sky News. Similar loud noises were reported in Abu Dhabi during the interception of missiles in the region.
The ongoing conflict has seen the United States and Israel conducting extensive strikes against Iranian targets, prompting Iran to retaliate with attacks on Israel, U.S. bases, and other locations throughout the region. In light of this escalating violence, thousands of British citizens have departed the area on commercial flights. The first government charter flight arrived at London Stansted just before 1 AM on March 7, while a second flight carrying British nationals from Oman landed at Gatwick Airport at 12:30 AM on March 8.
As the situation continues to develop, Emirates Airlines and other service providers are adjusting their operations to ensure passenger safety and maintain flight schedules in the face of ongoing regional tensions.
