The popular television series The Masked Singer has taken an unexpected turn in its latest season, igniting fan speculation about the identity of the character Conkers. The show, which features celebrities performing in elaborate costumes while concealing their identities, is currently airing its seventh season on ITV.

In the latest episode, Conkers performed The Monkees‘ classic “I’m A Believer,” a song famously associated with the Shrek soundtrack. Following the performance, the show’s judges, including Mo Gilligan, Maya Jama, Jonathan Ross, and Davina McCall, along with guest panellist Perrie Edwards, attempted to guess the performer’s identity. Maya suggested it might be former footballer Wayne Bridge, while Perrie speculated it could be Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd. Davina leaned towards swimmer Tom Daley, and Jonathan thought it could be presenter Roman Kemp. Mo was inclined to think it might be former TOWIE star Jamie Laing.

However, viewers at home had a different theory, believing Conkers to be television personality Ben Shephard, known for hosting ITV’s This Morning and the game show Tipping Point. This speculation gained traction, particularly because Ben appeared as a guest judge in a previous episode when singer Marcella Detroit was unmasked as Gargoyle. Fans took to social media to express their thoughts, with one stating, “Conkers definitely sounds like Ben Shephard,” while another remarked, “I’m convinced Ben being on the panel last week was to throw us off.”

In addition to the buzz around Conkers, the previous week’s episode saw Marcella Detroit’s exit from the competition. Reflecting on her experience, she expressed her sadness at leaving but noted the opportunity came at a perfect time for her and her husband, who has longed to return to England. “We really want to get back to England and spend some time there,” she shared.

Earlier in the season, another contestant, John Lydon, also known as Johnny Rotten, was revealed to be Yak. He expressed his enjoyment of the show and mentioned that his participation fee would help fund his new album. John was unmasked in week three, joining the ranks of early eliminations including Alex Jones and rapper Professor Green.

As the season unfolds, The Masked Singer continues to captivate audiences with its blend of mystery and entertainment. The show airs weekly on Saturdays across ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player, promising more surprises and performances to come.
