Paddy Pimblett Promises Victory Against Justin Gaethje in Las Vegas
Paddy Pimblett is gearing up for a defining moment in his career as he prepares to face UFC veteran Justin Gaethje in Las Vegas for the interim lightweight title. The fight, scheduled for the early hours of Sunday, January 25, 2024, has drawn significant attention, with numerous supporters rallying behind Pimblett, including notable figures such as Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp and fellow fighter Molly McCann.
As Pimblett enters the octagon, he aims to become the first fighter from Liverpool to secure a UFC championship belt. In a heartfelt video message shared ahead of the fight, McCann expressed her confidence in Pimblett’s potential to succeed. “To our Patrick,” she said, “the night has come. You are about to become a world champion again, just like you have dreamed and manifested since you first started this game.” McCann emphasized the unity of his team, stating, “The whole world will be tuning in to see your arm be raised and the new ‘Paddy the Baddy Pimblett world champion.'”
Former Everton FC forward Wayne Rooney also extended his good luck wishes to Pimblett, urging him to “go and do us all proud.” In response, Pimblett expressed his gratitude, noting, “Yes Rooney, you know that, fellow Scouser.”
Pimblett shared that he received a motivational message from Klopp just the day before. “I will run through a brick wall for that man,” he stated. “There is no way I am losing after a message from him, Gerrard, and Rooney.” The support from these prominent figures has bolstered Pimblett’s confidence as he prepares for this pivotal fight.
Building Momentum in the UFC
This upcoming match marks Pimblett’s fourth fight in the United States, following his victories over renowned fighters such as Michael Chandler, Tony Ferguson, and Jared Gordon. As he looks forward, Pimblett expressed a desire for a long career in the UFC, stating, “I want at least another seven or eight fights in the UFC, I think. When I win this belt on Saturday, and then win the proper belt, that’s when people will start remembering.”
Pimblett’s aspirations extend beyond just winning; he hopes to create a legacy in the sport. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, he reflected on the possibility of fighting in front of fans in the UK again, suggesting that Anfield, the home of Liverpool FC, would be the only venue large enough to accommodate his ambitions. “I think the odds are going lower and lower,” he mentioned, acknowledging the challenges of hosting such an event.
Fans in the UK can expect the main card at UFC 324 to commence at 02:00 GMT on January 25, 2024. This translates to 21:00 ET and 18:00 PT on January 24, 2024, for viewers in the United States.
As the fight approaches, the excitement continues to build. Pimblett’s determination and the backing from his supporters reflect a significant moment not just for him but also for the Liverpool sporting community. The anticipation is palpable as fans prepare to witness whether Pimblett can indeed realize his dream of becoming a UFC champion.
