Ousmane Diomande Signs New Deal, Ending Manchester United Speculation
Ousmane Diomande has put an end to transfer speculation by signing a contract extension with Sporting Clube de Portugal, committing his future to the club until 2030. This decision comes amidst rumors linking the 22-year-old centre-back to Manchester United, where he would have reunited with former manager Ruben Amorim.
Reports indicated that Diomande was on United’s radar, particularly following fitness concerns related to key players such as Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, and Harry Maguire. Despite Amorim proposing seven potential signings, including Diomande, club officials Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell opted for a more data-driven recruitment strategy, rejecting the suggestions.
The Manchester Evening News, citing the Portuguese outlet A Bola, had earlier reported last summer that Diomande was identified as a strong target for the Premier League club. In addition to Manchester United, he also attracted interest from several other clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Newcastle, and Arsenal.
By signing a new deal, Diomande’s release clause is now set at €80 million (£70 million), reflecting his growing value in the transfer market. “I’m very happy. Sporting is truly a big club, not only in Portugal but worldwide,” he stated upon extending his contract. Diomande expressed his satisfaction with the club culture, adding, “There are good people in the club, I feel at home and that’s why I felt it was the right decision.”
While emphasizing his desire to improve as a player, Diomande acknowledged the supportive environment at Sporting, stating, “I only think about playing and proving my worth. From the coach to the players and staff, everyone helps. It’s easy, as a player, to get good performances when you have people like that around you. Everything becomes easier.”
Diomande’s commitment to Sporting Clube de Portugal not only secures his future with the club but also closes the door on potential moves to one of Europe’s top leagues, solidifying the team’s defense as they aim for success in domestic and international competitions.
