Tom Allen Leaves The Apprentice: You’re Fired After Six Years
Tom Allen has announced his departure from The Apprentice: You’re Fired, concluding a six-year tenure as host of the popular BBC show. The 42-year-old comedian shared his decision via an Instagram video, stating that now is the right time for him to explore new opportunities. “After six years, I’ve decided to say goodbye to The Apprentice: You’re Fired,” he expressed.
In his message, Allen reflected on his time with the show, highlighting the joy he experienced working alongside a talented creative team. He humorously noted his growing anxiety over Lord Sugar potentially realizing his lack of business knowledge. Allen has hosted the companion programme since 2019, where he became known for his sharp wit and engaging interactions with eliminated contestants who faced both critique and humor from the studio audience.
His exit marks a notable change for the show, and fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment. One viewer commented, “Oh no Tom! I do hope you’re not going to disappear from our screens completely!” Another added, “So sad. It certainly won’t be the same without you. Good luck with whatever you decide to do next.” Many have echoed their sentiments, suggesting that no future host can match his unique charm.
In his farewell message, Allen extended gratitude to key figures in the show, including Karren Brady and Tim Campbell, for their support throughout his journey. He recognized the many contestants and guest panellists who contributed to the programme’s success over the years.
Co-hosts responded with heartfelt tributes, with Lord Sugar expressing that working with Allen was “a pleasure” and admitting he initially underestimated Allen’s comedic talent. Tim Campbell praised Allen for infusing “warmth, wit and wicked whistles” into the show, while Karren Brady expressed deep appreciation from the production team for his contributions over five series.
The official social media accounts for The Apprentice: You’re Fired echoed these sentiments, describing Allen as “the most wonderful host” and wishing him well in his future endeavors.
Fans are actively speculating about Allen’s next career move. Some suggest he may be a contender for a major hosting role on another BBC programme, such as Strictly Come Dancing. One enthusiastic supporter remarked, “Oh, I do hope you are going to present Strictly! The show needs you!”
Originally from Bromley, Kent, Allen gained recognition after winning the So You Think You’re Funny? award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2005. Since then, he has crafted a diverse career that includes stand-up comedy, theatre, writing, and musical performances, alongside regular television appearances.
While Allen hinted at “new voyages” ahead, the BBC has yet to announce his successor on You’re Fired. The future of the programme remains uncertain without its beloved host.
