In a concerted effort to combat illegal fireworks trading, police have confiscated a total of 88,603 pieces of pyrotechnic materials in Montenegro. This operation forms part of the national campaign known as “Petarda,” which began on December 15, 2025, and will continue until January 15, 2026. The seized items include 88,095 firecrackers, 158 fireworks, and 350 sparklers.

Police officials reported that these fireworks were taken from individuals in various locations, including Podgorica, Danilovgrad, Nikšić, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Ulcinj, and Bar. Many of those found in possession of the illegal fireworks face criminal charges for prohibited trading. Authorities have indicated that further legal classifications will be determined for other involved parties.

Objectives of the “Petarda” Operation

The primary goal of the “Petarda” operation is to curb illegal trading and misuse of pyrotechnic materials, which can pose serious risks to public safety. The police statement emphasized the importance of preventing potential injuries to both people, particularly children, and animals due to irresponsible handling of such materials.

Throughout the New Year and Christmas holiday period, police will intensify their efforts, as they have in previous years, to identify and penalize those engaged in illegal procurement and unsafe handling of fireworks.

The initiative aims not only to enforce the law but also to ensure the safety of citizens during a time when fireworks are commonly used for celebrations. According to the Police Administration, the operation has been well-received by the community, highlighting the ongoing commitment to public safety.

As the campaign progresses, authorities will remain vigilant in monitoring illegal activities related to fireworks, aiming to foster a safer environment for all residents.
