University of Warwick Launches £6 Million Vanguard Centre Revamp
A significant transformation is underway at the University of Warwick as the Vanguard Centre embarks on a £6 million revamp. This project aims to establish the centre as a state-of-the-art innovation hub, expanding its facilities to include 13,600 square feet of laboratory space and an additional 8,000 square feet dedicated to offices. The updated building will feature modern meeting rooms and collaborative workspaces designed to foster innovation.
Focus on Sustainability and Design
The revitalized Vanguard Centre will prioritize sustainability, incorporating features that reflect strong environmental credentials. Planned enhancements include electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and electric-only systems, along with high Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and BREEAM ratings. These initiatives align with the growing demand for eco-friendly facilities in the business sector.
Contractors from DENTON will lead the project, which is scheduled for completion by mid-2026. The strategic location of the Vanguard Centre is expected to appeal to businesses across the West Midlands, particularly those in need of modern research and development (R&D) spaces.
Emma Turner, Business Development Manager at the University of Warwick, highlighted the challenges companies face in finding suitable laboratory space in the region. She noted, “Availability of lab space within the region is a challenge for many businesses needing to find suitable premises and is at a significant premium due to lack of supply in areas of high demand.” Turner expressed confidence that the Vanguard Centre will serve as an ideal base for businesses seeking affordable and well-designed facilities.
Creating Opportunities for Life Sciences
Rob Carr, Head of Construction at DENTON, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are really pleased to play a key part in transforming the Vanguard Centre into a space that cutting-edge life science companies can get excited about.” He emphasized the importance of creating environments that enable specialized organizations to thrive.
Interested parties seeking space at the Vanguard Centre can contact Giles Garbutt at Carter Jonas via email at [email protected]. This ambitious project represents a significant investment in the region’s future, positioning the University of Warwick as a key player in the life sciences sector.
