The University of Warwick is initiating a significant £6 million revamp of its Vanguard Centre, aiming to establish it as a state-of-the-art innovation hub. This ambitious project will enhance the facility, providing a total of 13,600 square feet of laboratory space along with 8,000 square feet of modern office areas. The renovation includes the development of contemporary meeting rooms and collaborative workspaces designed to foster innovation.

This project emphasizes sustainability, incorporating advanced environmental features. The upgraded Vanguard Centre will include electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, electric-only systems, and aims to achieve high ratings for Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM).

Strategic Importance and Timeline

The construction will be overseen by contractors DENTON, with an expected completion date set for mid-2026. University officials believe the centre’s strategic location in the West Midlands, combined with competitive pricing, will attract businesses seeking modern research and development spaces.

Emma Turner, Business Development Manager at the University of Warwick, highlighted the regional need for laboratory space. “The availability of lab space within the region is a challenge for many businesses needing to find suitable premises, and it is at a significant premium due to lack of supply in areas of high demand,” she stated. Turner expressed confidence that the Vanguard Centre will serve as an ideal base for companies requiring modern facilities.

Creating a Thriving Environment

Rob Carr, Head of Construction at DENTON, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are really pleased to play a key part in transforming the Vanguard Centre into a space that cutting-edge life science companies can get excited about. We know what it takes to create environments where specialist organisations can thrive.”

As the project progresses, both the University of Warwick and DENTON are committed to ensuring that the Vanguard Centre meets the demands of modern businesses. Those interested in securing space at the Vanguard Centre can reach out to Giles Garbutt at Carter Jonas via email at [email protected].

This development not only signals a significant investment in the region’s infrastructure but also represents a forward-thinking approach to supporting the growth of innovation and research in the Midlands.
